Smallest of the three sisters – Bass Concert Hall and Bates Recital Hall being the others – the University of Texas' McCullough Theatre sits just south of 400 patrons and could double as a home cinema were it not for the floor-level stage and outsize talent that’s performed therein. From avant-garde sonic astronaut Laurie Anderson to Oslo’s throwback Trio Mediæval, the intimate theatre and dance space has hosted jazz greats to exhilarating effect, including a renowned trifecta of Ds: Dave Douglas, Don Byron, and Donald Byrd.
