Late, great Austin club impresario Clifford Antone (1949-2006) opened the tie-in to his world-famous blues sanctuary in 1987, a dozen years after the live music staple debuted on Sixth Street. By then, Antone’s had settled in North Campus, directly across Guadalupe from the new vinyl emporium. After his death, the record store’s most loyal and knowledgeable music encyclopedias – original Fabulous Thunderbirds drummer Mike Buck, his spouse and garage rock-loving Austin native Eve Monsees, and grin merchant Forrest Coppock – took over and retain vinyl prices of 30 years ago rather than today’s wax gouging. In-store performers amongst the racks: Gary Clark Jr., Lazy Lester, and Paul Ray.
