Booked by NPR affiliate KUTX, the Cactus Cafe opened its doors in the Student Union of the University of Texas in 1979, and has held the hearts of faithful music lovers ever since. Its quiet, intimate, friendly atmosphere holds the mythology of Townes Van Zandt, Lyle Lovett, Guy Clark, Joe Ely, Nanci Griffith, Butch Hancock, Shawn Colvin, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, and Jerry Jeff Walker among a long list of legends that have graced its red-velvet-backed stage.
