On the occasion of the Chronicle’s 35th anniversary, back in 2016, our then-music columnist Kevin Curtin combed through our back issues and counted at least 300 times since our launch in 1981 that we’ve put musicians on the cover. Our online archives only go so far back as 1995, so here’s an incomplete picture of all the times we celebrated Texas music on the cover, starting with the Red-Headed Stranger himself, Willie Nelson, shot by photographer Gary Miller for our April 12, 2013 issue.
